New Performax Drill - How to Beat the Competition

Perfomax® Vs. Iscar DR

Iscar has the same insert in the periphery and center — a poor compromise since you have zero in cutting speed in center and up 200-300 m/min at periphery. Perfomax will always outrun a Iscar drill with high feeds per rev and high cutting speed. Perfomax also will give a better hole quality (cylindricity), longer tool life, be less noisy, and have a better chip evacuation (application security).

One of the hardest things to combat with Iscar are their promotions.

Our Take on the Iscar DR Drill

Strengths
  • Large range (12-60mm with 2, 3, & 4xD, 12-24mm at 5xD)
  • Wide insert selection
  • Twist coolant holes which strengthens the core
  • Helical flutes are sometimes an advantage
Weaknesses
  • Tool life
  • Long chipping material
  • Insert grades
  • Same insert in periphery & center
Where We Win
  • Increased running parameters
  • Promote Duratomic® - Better tool life
  • Noise levels

Perfomax® Vs. Kennametal DFS

Kennametal's drill has a square insert on periphery and a trigon insert in center. Tests have shown that Perfomax is less noisy, normally has a longer tool life, better chip evacuation (application security), and is more economical with 4 cutting edges in center and periphery.

Testing in the lab shows this to be a strong drill that can achieve good hole quality. Our strongest argument is the economy of Perfomax, with four indexes on both the center and the periphery insert. We normally can outperform on tool life as well.

Our Take on the Kennametal DFS Drill

Strengths
  • Combination of trigon and square inserts can provide an advantage in centering
  • Good hole quality
Weaknesses
  • One less index due to the trigon insert
  • Noisy (but not as high pitched as Coromant's)
  • Starts a little hard
  • Insert grades
Where We Win
  • Increased running parameters
  • Duratomic®
  • Strong drill body
  • Strong inserts
  • 4 indexes
  • Noise Levels

Perfomax® Vs. Komet KUB Pentron®

Komet has the same insert in the periphery and center. This is not an optimal setup, because there is no cutting speed at the drill center and up 200-300 m/min at periphery. Perfomax will always outperform a Komet drill. Expect higher feeds per rev, higher cutting speed, better hole tolerance, longer tool life, less noise, and better chip evacuation (application security).

Komet is a holemaking company. They specialize in drilling and are known for that in the market.

Our Take on the Komet KUB Pentron

Strengths
  • 4 indexes per insert
  • Large hole diameter range (14 - 46mm 2, 3, 4, & 5xD, 32.8 - 45mm 6xD)
Weaknesses
  • Same insert at periphery and center
  • Noisy
  • Hole tolerance
Where We Win
  • Productivity (feeds and speeds)
  • Longer tool life
  • Better hole tolerance
  • Noise
  • Chip control
